Phoenix is preparing to introduce a new online system meant to make parking easier for people heading downtown, according to city officials.

The platform, called ParkPHX, is a web-based application that will let users find, reserve and pay for parking in the downtown area. April Truncellito, deputy director of the Phoenix Convention Center, said it is "set to revolutionize" the way people handle parking in the district.

The tool is built to match drivers with options based on their own priorities, including location, price and whether a facility offers electric vehicle charging. Truncellito said it works on any device with an internet connection, so the experience is the same whether someone uses a home computer, a tablet or a phone.

She recently told a city subcommittee that the platform is expected to go live in the next few weeks, as of the article's date of Feb. 17, 2025.

The city also intends to commission a study on signage that would direct visitors to downtown parking. The study is to determine the best locations, content and cost for those signs.

Vice Mayor Ann O'Brien said parking can feel daunting for people who do not regularly go downtown, and that it can discourage them from attending events they might otherwise enjoy. "I think anything we can do to help make it easier is a major step in the right direction," she said.

Together, the online platform and the planned signage study are aimed at removing a common obstacle for downtown visitors, according to the officials who described the plans.
